So I was at the dentist today being subjected to nearly an hour of torture. For most of the torture I closed my eyes and reminisced on some of the awesome trips I've done overseas, two locations in particular - Dubrovnik and Malta. I tried hard not to smile (because I couldn't) when thinking about my trip to Malta. It was an impulsive trip... ticket purchased one week before travel, getting the last seat on the plane and the last room in the British Hotel. It was my first solo trip and I loved it! I will definitely go back to Malta one day.
While in Malta I did something incredibly crazy and impulsive (I'm not sure my mum even knows about it but she will when she reads this blog), something I wouldn't do in NZ. You know there's things you'd do overseas but not in your own country. You're more crazy when you travel. I am anyway. So I got on this small water taxi (see photo) if you could even call it that, it was probably more like some random guy trying to make a dollar, with no life jacket and he rowed me across the harbour from Birgu to the capital, Valetta. He decided to extend the trip by taking me on a little tour near the shipping harbour. It was at this point I started to freak out a little bit as the reality began to sink in that I was in the middle of the harbour in a small boat with no life jacket. Thankfully I had a beautiful sunset to distract me. Oh the things we do when we're on holiday!!!
What have you done on holiday that you would never do in your own country/city? Would love to hear about it!
